Gaston Glock, the founder of Glock GmbH and the inventor of the famous Glock pistol, passed away on December 27, 2023. Born on July 19, 1929, in Vienna, Austria, Glock was an engineer and a polymath with a background in mechanical engineering. Before venturing into the world of firearms, Glock had a successful business in manufacturing curtain rods and knives.

In 1980, Glock entered the firearms industry with no experience in gun design. However, his engineering background played a pivotal role in his success. He was 52 years old when he started working on what would become the Glock 17. His innovation in using polymer in the design of the pistol was groundbreaking at the time and has since become a standard in the industry.
